Strengthening Peace in BARMM: A Visit to the 6th Infantry ‘Kampilan’ Division
In our continuous efforts to support peace-building and sustainable development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), we recently had the privilege of visiting the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry ‘Kampilan’ Division (6ID) at Camp Siongco, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte. This visit was more than just a routine stop; it was an opportunity to witness firsthand the unwavering commitment of the men and women who are at the forefront of fostering peace in this historically conflict-affected region.
Honoring the Journey to Peace
One of the key highlights of our visit was the newly opened Bulwagan ng Kapayapaan (Peace Museum). This museum stands as a testament to the relentless efforts, sacrifices, and courage of both our soldiers and the Bangsamoro people in their shared journey toward peace and sustainable development. The exhibits poignantly capture the struggles and triumphs of those who have worked tirelessly to transform BARMM into a region of hope and opportunity.
The Peace Museum not only serves as a reminder of the past but also as an inspiration for the future, encouraging all who visit to contribute to the ongoing process of peace-building in the region. It underscores the importance of remembering the lessons of history while looking forward to a future defined by harmony and prosperity.
Collaborative Efforts for a Sustainable Future
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Major General Antonio G. Nafarrete, Commander of the 6ID, and the entire 6ID team for their warm welcome and for sharing their continuing story of peace-building in BARMM. Their dedication to the cause is evident, and their hospitality was deeply appreciated by all of us who attended.
We are also grateful to Major General Arvin R. Lagamon, Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, PA, and his team, whose efforts made this visit possible. Their work in fostering collaboration between the military and civil society is crucial to ensuring that peace efforts are comprehensive and inclusive.
Expanding Social Enterprise for Peace
As we reflect on the insights gained during this visit, we are more committed than ever to expanding our efforts in BARMM, particularly through the growth of social enterprises. We believe that social enterprises can play a vital role in peace-building by providing sustainable livelihoods and fostering economic development in conflict-affected and vulnerable communities.
In our photos from the visit, you’ll see Hobi Cortes, Executive Director of Bayan Innovation Group; Carlo Sagun, Vice President of Bayan Family of Foundations (BFF); and Reichelle Carlos, BFF’s Director of Institutional Marketing. They were joined by Rashid Bangcolongan, Founder of RAISE Training Center Inc., a key partner in our mission to support peace and development through social enterprise.
We invite you to connect with us to learn more about how social enterprises can contribute to peace-building in BARMM and other conflict-affected regions. Together, we can build a future where peace and prosperity go hand in hand.
